John Cormier, PhD – Founder and CEO
John founded Picomole in 2005 on the belief that recent advances in infrared spectroscopy were key to
building a cost-effective and easy-to-use test platform for clinical diagnostics using exhaled breath. He invented LISA, Laser Infrared Sample Analysis, and built one of the world’s largest databases of breath analysis information.
Under his leadership Picomole has received recognition and awards including: Grand Prize Winner of the VenturePrize business plan competition, Top 10 Canadian Angel Capital Company, and BioAlberta Emerging Company of the Year. John has also been named one of the Top 50 Most Influential Albertans by Alberta Venture business magazine.
John earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Toronto. Following completion of his graduate work, he was awarded a National Research Council Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD.
John is deeply motivated by Picomole’s mission, and sums up his outlook on life with the words “Make no small plans, for they have no magic to stir men’s blood.”
